Project CityCarillon in 150 Colours of Sound

What song does everyone from your native country know? What song means a lot to the people of your country and can everyone sing along?

Let us know via this link!

The tower of the Grote Kerk on the Oude Markt houses a carillon with 49 bells. Every Sunday between 1 and 2 PM, the city carillonist plays these bells with hands and feet. The steel tower on the campus of the University of Twente also houses a 49-bell carillon. The carillonist plays this instrument every Thursday between 12 and 1 PM.

If you are near the Oude Markt or strolling across campus at those times, you will hear the bells of the City Carillon or the Campus Carillon. How great would it be if every Enschede resident could sing along to at least one song?!

That's why we are collecting non-political songs from all 150 or so nationalities in our city from the residents of Enschede. In 2025, these songs will be played by the city carillonist on the City Carillon or the Campus Carillon during several special concerts.

On Saturday, October 25th, between 7:15 PM and 8:00 PM, eleven songs from eleven different countries will be played on the bells of the Campus Carillon of the University of Twente. Around that time it is already dark. That is why it will be a candlelight concert!
