La Camisa Negra - Colombia

"We Colombians are very passionate!"

Juan Camilo López Amezquita

What is the song about? What does the song mean?

Why is the song so well known in your country of origin?

It was a radio hit in the 2000s because it blends traditional Colombian "cantina" music with rock & roll. The song also became popular in other countries, such as Germany, thanks to its catchy rhythm.

What special meaning does the song have for you?

I like rock & roll, but I especially enjoy it when it's mixed with other Latin rhythms. This is a good example.

Tell us something about yourself. Who are you?

My name is Juan Camilo López Amezquita. I am a researcher at the Faculty of EEMCS at the University of Twente. I have lived in other countries, such as Brazil, Denmark, and Colombia, and I’ve been living in Enschede for almost three years — now it feels like home!
