Sakura - Japan

I know this tune from my childhood and it still warms my heart!

Natsuko Ogiwara

What is the song about? What does the song mean?

This is a song about cherry trees and their blossoms. It is an old Japanese folk song. The song was written for children to learn to play a Japanese harp.

Why is the song so well known in your country of origin?

If you are Japanese, you will definitely hear this song somewhere from children to adults.

What special meaning does the song have for you?

I learned to play the Japanese harp when I was young. It was the first song I drew at that time. And I love it because I have heard its melody since I was a little girl and it still warms my heart very much.

Tell us something about yourself. Who are you?

My name is Natsuko Ogiwara. I moved to Enschede with my family from Japan four years ago. I am happy to hear my old favorite songs in Holland, far away from Japan.
