On Valentine's Day, between 12:30 and 13:30, city carillonist Esther Schopman played 14 songs on the CityCarillon in the tower of the Grote Kerk in Enschede. The event was announced in Huis aan Huis Enschede: “Stadsbeiaardier vraagt om verzoeknummers Valentijnsdag". 1Twente made the following report about this event: "Van Servisch tot Taiwanees: stadsbeiaardier Esther spreekt de internationale taal van de liefde".
The concert was introduced from the playing cabin in the tower's spire by Malik Jajan, the alderman for culture. Listeners and passersby could hear him through loudspeakers. The alderman also played a few bars with the city carillonneur.
All the songs have been arranged by Esther in such a way that they can be played on the carillon, except the Chinese song, as that is an arrangement by Annie Gao. She was kind enough to share her arrangement with us.
